IRIS FBR: Login, Registration and Return Filing Guide 2026

IRIS FBR: Login, Registration and Return Filing Guide 2026

IRIS FBR is the online tax portal of the Federal Board of Revenue at iris.fbr.gov.pk. You use it to register as a taxpayer, get your National Tax Number (NTN), file your income tax return and wealth statement, create tax payment slips and check whether you are on the Active Taxpayers List (ATL). Individuals can do all of this from home with a CNIC, a mobile number in their own name and an email address.

The portal now runs as IRIS 2.0, with a new login box and a step by step registration form. This guide covers registration, login, password recovery, return filing and the Tax Asaan app as they work in October 2026. For tax year 2026, the return deadline shown on IRIS is 15 October 2026.

What you can do on IRIS FBR

  • Register for income tax and receive an NTN (for individuals, the CNIC number works as the registration number).
  • File the annual income tax return and wealth statement.
  • Create a Payment Slip ID (PSID) to pay income tax through a bank.
  • Update your profile, address, bank details and contact information.
  • Use Online Verifications to check ATL status, taxpayer profiles, payment receipts (CPR), PSIDs and notices.
  • Reply to notices and orders sent by your tax office.

What you need before IRIS registration

According to FBR, online registration is available only for individuals. Before you begin, keep these ready:

  • Your valid CNIC and its expiry date.
  • A mobile phone with a SIM registered against your own CNIC. You can confirm this with our SIM check guide.
  • A personal email address that belongs to you.
  • A scanned bank certificate showing a personal account in your own name.
  • If you run a business: proof of ownership or tenancy of the premises and a paid utility bill not older than three months.

Associations of persons and companies cannot register online. Their partner or principal officer must visit a facilitation counter at any tax house with the original documents.

IRIS FBR registration for new users

  1. Open iris.fbr.gov.pk and click Taxpayer Registration under the login box.
  2. On the Basic information step, enter your CNIC, say whether it has lifetime validity, add the expiry date and type your full name exactly as printed on the CNIC.
  3. Fill in your address on the next step.
  4. Enter your mobile number and email under Contact information and verify them with the codes FBR sends.
  5. Set your password, then check the Confirmation page and submit.
  6. Log in and complete the registration form in your account with your income source, bank account and address details, attach the documents and submit it.

Once FBR processes the form, you are registered and can file returns. Registration alone does not put you on the ATL. You join the list only after you file an income tax return.

IRIS login steps

  1. Go to iris.fbr.gov.pk.
  2. In the login box, enter your CNIC (individuals) or NTN (AOPs and companies).
  3. Enter your password and click LOGIN.
  4. Save your work often. IRIS shows a notice that users may be logged out if idle.

If you already have an NTN from the old system but never created an IRIS account, use the e-Enrollment option listed on the IRIS site instead of new registration.

IRIS forgot password and account recovery

Click Forgot Password / Account Recovery below the login fields. IRIS then gives two choices:

OptionWhen to use it
Forgot PasswordYou still have the email address and mobile number registered with FBR. A reset code is sent to them.
Account RecoveryYou have lost access to the registered mobile number or email. You recover the account by updating to a mobile number registered against your CNIC.

If neither option works, call the FBR helpline on 051-111-772-772 with your CNIC.

How to file your return on IRIS

  1. Log in and open the income tax return for the tax year you are filing (tax year 2026 covers 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026).
  2. Enter income from salary, business, property and other sources.
  3. Add tax already deducted, for example by your employer, bank, phone company or electricity bill.
  4. Calculate the result. If tax is payable, create a PSID and pay it at a bank or through internet banking.
  5. Complete the wealth statement with assets and liabilities as on 30 June and reconcile it.
  6. Submit the return and wealth statement and keep the acknowledgement.

FBR posts PDF and video help for the return and wealth statement in the Help section of the IRIS home page. For the current deadline and late filing penalties, read our FBR tax return last date 2026 update.

Tax Asaan app

Tax Asaan is the official FBR mobile app. It links to the same IRIS account and offers income tax registration, income tax return filing, payments, online verification, point of sale services and sales tax registration. Salaried people can use the simplified salary return in the app instead of the full IRIS form.

Download Tax Asaan only from the official Google Play or Apple App Store listing published by FBR. Retailers will also see a separate Tajir Asaan link on the IRIS login box for the traders scheme.

How to check ATL status

  • By SMS: type ATL (space) your 13-digit CNIC and send it to 9966. Companies and AOPs send ATL (space) their 7-digit NTN.
  • Online: on the IRIS home page, open Online Verifications, choose Active Taxpayer List (Income Tax), select CNIC as the parameter type, enter your number and the date, fill the captcha and click Verify.
  • Download: the full ATL file is available on the FBR Active Taxpayer List page.

Common IRIS problems and fixes

  • CNIC already registered: you probably have an account from earlier. Use Forgot Password or Account Recovery instead of registering again.
  • Verification code not received: make sure the SIM is in your name and has signal, check the spam folder for email, and wait a few minutes before asking again.
  • Logged out while filing: IRIS ends idle sessions. Save each section as you go.
  • Portal slow near the deadline: heavy traffic is common in the final days. File early, or try late at night.

PK Portals is an independent information site and is not linked to the Federal Board of Revenue or the Government of Pakistan. Frequently Asked Questions

Is IRIS registration free?

Yes. FBR does not charge any fee to register on IRIS or to file a return. You only pay tax that is actually due on your income.

What is my IRIS username?

For an individual, the username is the 13-digit CNIC number. AOPs and companies log in with their NTN.

Does registering on IRIS make me a filer?

No. You become an active taxpayer only after you file an income tax return. Your name then appears on the ATL.

Can I use someone else’s mobile number for IRIS?

No. FBR requires a SIM registered against your own CNIC for online registration, and the same number is used for codes and recovery.

What are the FBR helpline timings?

The FBR helpline on 051-111-772-772 works from 8:00 am to 11:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Women can also call 051-9107025 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on weekdays.
