Passport Fee in Pakistan 2026: E-Passport Normal and Urgent Rates

Passport Fee in Pakistan 2026: E-Passport Normal and Urgent Rates

The passport fee in Pakistan for a standard 36-page e-passport with 5 years validity is Rs9,000 for normal processing and Rs15,000 for urgent processing, according to the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP). A 36-page e-passport with 10 years validity costs Rs13,500 normal or Rs22,500 urgent.

This matters now because DGIP stops issuing new machine readable passports (MRPs) from 15 October 2026 and will issue only e-passports after that. If you apply on or after that date, the e-passport fee table below is the one that applies. PK Portals is an independent information site and is not linked to DGIP, NADRA or the Ministry of Interior.

E-passport fee in Pakistan 2026

These are the ordinary e-passport fees published on the DGIP website. DGIP lists e-passports in 36-page and 72-page versions only.

PagesValidityNormal feeUrgent fee
36 pages5 yearsRs9,000Rs15,000
36 pages10 yearsRs13,500Rs22,500
72 pages5 yearsRs16,500Rs27,000
72 pages10 yearsRs24,750Rs40,500

DGIP notes that Fast Track service is not available for e-passport delivery. Applicants at Executive Passport Offices (EPOs) and Passport Processing Counters (PPCs) also pay NADRA service charges at that office on top of the passport fee.

Which e-passport gives the best value

A 10-year passport costs more upfront but less per year. The table divides the normal fee by the years of validity.

E-passportNormal feeCost per year
36 pages, 5 yearsRs9,000Rs1,800
36 pages, 10 yearsRs13,500Rs1,350
72 pages, 5 yearsRs16,500Rs3,300
72 pages, 10 yearsRs24,750Rs2,475

For most adults who travel a few times a year, the 36-page, 10-year e-passport is the cheapest option per year. Frequent travellers who fill pages quickly may prefer 72 pages. Children under 15 can only get 5 years validity.

What changes on 15 October 2026

In June 2026 the federal government approved in principle a full move to e-passports, which carry a chip that stores the holder’s biometric and personal data. In late September, DGIP told passport offices through a circular that new MRPs can be obtained only until 14 October 2026. From 15 October 2026 only e-passports are issued, and MRPs will not be renewed when they expire.

  • Your current MRP stays usable until its expiry date.
  • When you renew, you will receive an e-passport and pay the e-passport fee.
  • The e-passport fee is higher than the old MRP fee, for example Rs9,000 instead of Rs4,500 for a 36-page, 5-year normal passport.

Normal21 working days

Courier time to remote areas and missions abroad is extra. DGIP does not publish a separate timeline for e-passports, so ask at the counter when you apply.

Fee for lost, damaged or exhausted passports

  • First loss: double the normal fee, plus a police report that mentions the lost passport number.
  • Second loss: four times the normal fee.
  • Third loss: the case is sent to DGIP headquarters in Islamabad for approval.
  • Damaged or pages finished: a fresh passport is issued against the normal prescribed fee and documents.

How to apply and pay at a passport office

You can apply at any passport office in Pakistan, whatever address is on your CNIC. Adults bring the original CNIC and old passport (if any). Minors need a CRC (B-Form) or FRC, or a juvenile card for those aged 10 and above, along with both parents’ CNICs. Our NADRA online services guide explains how to get these documents.

  1. Arrive at the customer service counter, get your photograph taken and receive a token with a QR code.
  2. Give your fingerprints.
  3. Check your data carefully at the data entry stage and give your mobile number and email for status updates.
  4. Attend the interview with the assistant director.
  5. Pay the fee through the QR code.
  6. Collect your passport on the given date, or let a blood relative collect it.

Online passport application and tracking

DGIP runs an online passport portal at onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk for renewals by Pakistanis at home and abroad, with card payment at the last step. Overseas applicants can also use it for some new categories, such as a newborn’s first passport or a lost, damaged or exhausted passport. With the switch to e-passports, check the portal for the categories it currently accepts.

If you applied online under the normal category and then face an emergency, the portal lets you convert the application to urgent by paying the fee difference online. Online fees are paid by credit or debit card, and the application is reviewed at DGIP headquarters before printing.

For tracking, applicants who gave a mobile number at data entry receive SMS updates from 9988, and online applicants get updates by email. The online passport section can be reached on 051-8482202 or [email protected] with your tracking ID and CNIC.

Common problems and fixes

  • Name too long for e-passport: DGIP allows up to 50 characters for first name, 40 for last name and 40 for father or husband name. Both first and last names are required.
  • Wrong details on CNIC: DGIP requires you to get your CNIC corrected by NADRA before it changes any passport details.
  • No status message: make sure you gave a valid number at data entry, then call 051-111-344-777.
  • Online fee paid by mistake: DGIP says online passport fees are not refundable or transferable, so check the category before paying.
